History of Kisnána castle

In the neighbourhood of the Southern vineyard of Mátra can be found the towers of castle of Kisnána surrounded by the residential areas of the village.

KisnánaIt belongs to the younger medieval fortresses, because the Kompolti noble family had his residental palace surrounded with strong stonewall only in the middle of the 15th century which included the church of the village as well. To its thick towergate led the drawbridge across the deep trench. From here through the pass of the external castle another gatetower blocked the way of the uninvited guests.

The peaceful decades ended in the middle of the 16th century when the notorious thief knight of this era, László Móré settled down in the building with his ruffian gunmen. As they regularly robbed the Turkish tradmen the pasha of Buda attacked the castle of Kisnána with his army. The superior force won the battle in a short time and the winners destroyed the defencive walls.

According to the former legend the frightened Móré threw gold coins to the attacking muslims to distruct their attention so that he could escape. But the tackle was not successful he was captured by the Turkish and they put him into the prison of Seven towers in Istambul until his death.
